Pothos vines are very easy to propagate, keep and maintain.

Pothos is one of the easiest plants to propagate.

To propagate means to clone. You just have trim some leaves from a healthy vine and let them reproduce. Some people like to add a dab of growth hormone to the end of the cutting that is being propagate. I prefer to go raw. If you do find using the growth hormone helpful, please leave a comment bellow with your thoughts.

Pothos is the kind of vine that grows very fast and is very easy to keep. They do not need a lot of sunlight so you can have them anywhere around the house. ☀️ [medium/low]

Once you get into it, you will probably become addicted. I recommend to always have a some trimmings with a few grown roots in glass bottles handy, they are great for a quick grab and go housewarming gift, or to bring to a dinner party.

Please note that a Pothos that has been left growing only in water for a long time, will have a bit of difficulty getting used to the soil, so the potting can be a bit risky. Try not to leave them in water for a long time before you move them into soil.

LEARN HOW TO PROPAGATE POTHOS BY FOLLOWING THESE SIMPLE STEPS

First take a healthy vine and trim 4 to 6 inches using a sharp knife or scissors. (I have a healthy thick mother plant which I am constantly trimming for propagation)
Then place your trimmings in a clear glass container with fresh water. I like to use white wine bottles.
Leave your photos in a place where it can receive some sunlight.
In a month you will start seeing roots growing and now your pothos will be ready to be transported to soil.

Leave the cuttings in water for a few weeks

Once you have trimmed a piece of the vine from a healthy mother plant, leave it in a container with water, preferably clear glass.

Place it somewhere where it can receive some light, it doesn't have to be direct.

You could get creative with the containers, I keep it easy and simple by re-using white wine bottles.

A tip to remove the labels quick: boil some water and place the bottle for a few seconds inside the pot. The hot water will help to soften the glue.

➡️ THIS IS HOW THE ROOTS WILL LOOK LIKE AFTER A MONTH

This pothos has been growing roots for more than a Month, They are starting to look a little dark, and you can see a lot of grown roots. It is time to move the plant ton soil before it refuses to adapt to its new habitat.

➡️ PULL VERY CAREFULLY

Some roots might be tangled inside the bottle, others will be very newly born and fragile to resist a strong pull. So be very gentle.

Remember they are being switched to another life support.

➡️ UNTANGLE

You are all out now!

Softly using your fingers finish untangling the roots to prepare them for planting.

➡️ ADD SOME ROCKS FOR DRAINAGE

Some planters come with no hole for drainage, but no need to worry. If it is a plastic planter, you can easily make a hole with a drill, but if you are going to use a ceramic planter you can add some rocks to create it.

Place a few river rocks at the bottom, before putting soil in. This is to prevent the roots from overwatering and drowning.

CHARCOAL CAN BE ANOTHER OPTION FOR DRAINAGE

I mostly use charcoal only for succulents.

But if you don't have river rocks handy, charcoal will do the trick.

➡️ PLACE THE ROOTS IN YOUR CONTAINER

Once you have the drainage part covered, add some soil to cover the rocks.

Then place the roots over that bed of soil and start covering them with more fresh soil.

➡️ Untangle and Clean-up

Remember pothos can easily get very tangled. So every once in a while you should untangle the vines, trim and remove yellow and brown leaves etc etc…..

Pothos is one of the easiest house plants to have, maintain and reproduce. They do not need a lot of light and can be easily propagated (clonned) from a single cutting.I love giving plants as gifts for the home. Specially for new house or new business venture.

I have a big Pothos which I call the my "mother plant", when I see it is growing too long, I trim off some cuttings and place them in water to grow new roots. Empty white wine bottles work perfect as you can easily see the roots growing. Once it is ready to be planted in soil I repot it in a planter and send it to a new home to bring some good energy and oxygen.
