Goodbye, Perricone's
Construction fencing now surrounds Perricone's Marketplace, and demolition is underway.
For more than two decades, Perricone's had been part of Brickell long before the neighborhood filled with towers. It wasn't one of those places people visited every once in a while. It was the place. The restaurant. The market. The deli. The garden. You met people there, stopped by after work, picked up something on the way to a friend's house, or simply ended up there because that's where everyone seemed to gather.

Today, the front door carries a notice thanking customers for twenty three years of support while demolition continues behind the fencing.
Last year, the 10,965 square foot property sold for approximately $16.2 million to Netherlands based CitizenM Hotels, another sign of how quickly Brickell continues to change. You can read more about the sale here.
Watching a familiar place come down is a different experience than reading about a sale. Transactions happen on paper. Demolition happens in front of you. Walls disappear, roofs come down, and before long it's difficult to picture what stood there only weeks before.
Development is part of every growing city, and Brickell continues to reinvent itself with every new project. Even so, a few places leave a mark that's difficult to replace.
For more than twenty years, Perricone's wasn't simply occupying one of Brickell's best corners.
It helped define it.
Goodbye, Perricone's.
