Nike made a big statement in Miami Beach yesterday with the opening of the new store in Lincoln Road .
Not only with their innovative products and personalized 1 on 1 service for Nike+members, but also with the design and revival of South Floridian architecture.
This location in the corner of Lenox and Lincoln was the former home of Williams Sonoma and Pottery Barn.
According to a report by Zachs.com Nike is geared to take its leadership status in the sporting goods space a step further with the launch of its new Nike Miami Store. The store promises to demonstrate the future of sport retail.
The Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board approved to demolish the old building and Touzet Studio, the Miami Architectural Design firm was able to give a new breather to the outdoor mall.
The structure is wrapped in a concrete Brise-Soleil and cast with waffle iron and Nike Windrunner patterns.
This design is most likely inspired by MiMo architecture, or even solely by South Florida's loved, or hated iconic architect Morris Lapidus. His works are all over Miami, one of the most famous is the "Fontainebleau Hotel" developed by Ben Novak in 1954.
Lapidus constantly used light to create unusual effects. He is also distinguished for the way he uses the facade of a building to delight, making it the focus for embellishment.
It's safe to say Touzet Studio has succeeded in bringing a new design era to Lincoln Road, by smoothly blending in to the historic district. A revival of South Floridian Architecture.
